UPDATE (24rd Dec 2007) :
You may use Installers available in Downloads sections for NVinject and NVinjectGo latest version (0.2.0), version 0.1.7 removed.
UPDATE (23rd Dec 2007) :
You may use Installers available in Downloads sections for NVinject and NVinjectGo latest version (0.1.7)
Here is how you need to proceed to install NVinject (it also applies to any other extension .kext file) :
First make sure you remove any previous injecter (TITAN, NATIT or previous NVinject version)
Before using terminal with root permissions, you also have to set a password to your admin user account (or your user account if you have only 1 user registered on your OS X install)
1- Copy NVinject.kext in a folder you can access easily
2- Open Terminal.app (in /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app)
3- type :which will ask for your Admin password to open a Super User Terminal session.
4- CD to the directory where you place NVinject.kext, here we placed it in "install" folder on Desktop for user gotoh : | Code: | | cd /users/gotoh/desktop/install/ |
5- set correct ownership for file recursively (extensions are file containers) : | Code: | | chown -R 0:0 NVinject.kext | This sets file ownership to "root" user, "wheel" group
6- set correct permissions to file recursively : | Code: | | chmod -R 755 NVinject.kext |
7- now move the file to extensions directory : | Code: | | mv NVinject.kext /System/Library/Extensions/NVinject.kext |
8- you should now remove extensions and kernel caches before rebooting : | Code: | rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/Caches/
rm -rf /System/Library/Caches/ |
9- you can now leave the Super User Terminal session :
10- Make sure you have the necessary NVIDIA Files in your Extensions folder :
NVDAResman.kext (required)
NVDANV50Hal.kext (required for GeForce 8 series)
NVDANV40Hal.kext (required for GeForce 7/8 series)
NVDANV30Hal.kext (required for GeForce 5 series and some GeForce 6 series)
NVDANV20Hal.kext (not required, for older cards, supported on PowerPC Macs only)
NVDANV10Hal.kext (not required, for older cards, supported on PowerPC Macs only)
GeForce3GLDriver.bundle (not required, for older cards, supported on PowerPC Macs only)
GeForce2MXGLDriver.bundle (not required, for older cards, supported on PowerPC Macs only)
GeForceVADriver.bundle (required)
GeForceGA.plugin (required)
GeForceFXGLDriver.bundle (required)
GeForce8xxxGLDriver.bundle (required for GeForce 8 series)
GeForce.kext (required)
11- you may now reboot and the newly installed extension should be loaded. For further safety, you may want to boot with -f flag at Darwin Bootloader (to force reloading all extensions), especially if you're running Leopard.

|
|
Hello there
after i installed the driver and checked during the boot up procedure the function of this driver, i have a hang now. Almost right after the correct load of the nvinject driver, it tells me something about a missing airport driver and thats it. It just stops there....
If i remove the nvidia driver, it works again, but with the default resolution...
Did i miss something or do i need a patch?
I am using 10.4.8. JaS (easy to install on a 3GHZ prescott rig, Graphcard: Asus 7900GS AGP)
Thanks for any hints

try boot with -f
play at the NVCAP, look forum for possible solutions. Make trys
That You got the error, did not found Airportcard is normal, You haven't one.
Use NVinject_permissions.command to fix realy all permissions.
About AGP I have no idea...
Mr Light
pS: I needet view hours until I found my right NVCAP.
ppS: Log in as root, if You know how to do that. that makes the edit on the info file much easyer and faster...

Hi All,
I have done everything exactly the way described in your install procedure, but unfortunately with no sucess. The NVinject.kext (v.0.1.5) got installed acordingly, cache files and permissions were altered as expected, but no way to get 2 displays at the same time.
I use an ASUS motherboard with a PCIe geForce 6200 TC 128MB VRAM to wich I connected 2 acer AL1916W monitors, the one on the DVI connector with help of an VGA/DVI adapter. The latter works just fine, if I start with just 1 monitor, as well as when starting with just 1 monitor connected to the VGA port. I have tried hot swapping both ways, starting with VGA and DVI, then connecting the second monitor, after the system MacOSX 10.4.8 has totally booted.
In System Profiler the version of the NVinject.kext is being recognized, next step I will trie all other versions, as for example v.0.1.1 with the forced/fixed VRAM size of 128 MB ...
Any other sugestions ? |

probably NVCAP issue. Check other topics where it as been answered several times. You can only experiment on your own here, as NVCAP should be different for every differnt card.
good luck |

Ok, thank you for all your help and hard work !
Without wanting to complicate things, have a look at this forum (you most probably do, once in a while):
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=32536
The new Natit.kext 0.1.1 and 0.1.2 DUAL DISPLAY seems to work for quiet a few people. They also have braught up the issue of the NVCAP, which indeed is crucial, as you have observed ! Tks for the hint !!! I will report my progress, as soon as I have made all the necessary testings, OK ?! |

sorry, I'am a total newb in this matter, thought it was interesting ... there is also a forum comparing NATIT and NVinject, but I could not figure out what is best for which card ... well, as you said, I have to experiment myself ... with different NVCAP values and so on ...
Unfortunately my NVidia 6200 TC 128MB seems to be one of the most problematic cards and I'am already considering a card which has got mor probability of working with your NVinject, as by reports of other forum members. Is there any card you or anybody here would recomend ??? I use 2 acer AL1916 Widescreen (with resolution 1400 x 900) VGA (!) monitors, the one connected to the DVI port with an adapter (it works just fine under Windows). By the way: I'am using Mac ONLY since 1989.
gotoh: Tks again for all your pacience and dedication ! |

| if you consider using another card, depending on how much you want to spend, I'd say a 7300GT or 7600GT should be fine for entry level cards. No need to get a 512Mb card, 256Mb are just fine. OTOH, people have reported a few issues with VGA only displays. I never had this kind o issue myself and could use 2 VGA displays or mixed DVI + VGA displays so it probably depends on card model revision and manufacturer. There's nothing I can state for sure in this matter. |
